Weekend News, Self-portraits, Animal Habitats, Literacy Workshop and More.....

 

Monday

                      Weekend News 

Cooper - I ate breakfast and did nothing but sit around. I think I got my backpack and we were playing puppy school and nothing else.

James V. - I went to a museum called the Barnes Museum. I saw Shanaya there and I forgot the rest.

Zoey - I go play Beauty and Beast. I play with mommy. Mommy do my hair. Daddy feed me. We go to the plane.

  

Willow - Momma went somewhere else and I went to a fun playground. I can't remember anything else but those two things.

Julian - We went to train station. I mean train store and then we went home and then we went somewhere else.

Lydia - I just play mommy. My sister was sick.

Grant - Eat dinner and I go in my room to sleep and play with toys. I sat down with Kennedy.

James M. - I went to the Harlem GlobeTrotters and the Globetrotters beat the general team. The ummm Harlem Globetrotters team won and then I went home. Then I play with my baseball in the front with my dad um that's it.

Olivia - I play with Peppa pig and Bluey and my dolls. I play with my baby dolls. The hair salon cut my hair. I like it.

Ekin -  I don't remember cause I was not at school yesterday that was on Monday after the weekend.

Ada - I went to the playground and I slid down at the playground. I swing on the swings at the playground and I do not know. I saw that dog again.

Surai - I ride my scooter and I went to the playground. I got water ice and pretzels and help mom-mom with the Turkey wings.

Addy - I went to Hot Pot. I went to the park and daddy got my birthday present. I got ice cream the park. 

Jackson - I went to Target. I brought a basket and shoes and I bought the creeper stuffy that I brought to school today. I brought it with my gift card.

Ellery - Read a book, we take walk and we build a house with magna-tiles that's it.

Shanaya - I see artwork at the museum and I went out to lunch and I did my Mermaid's hair. I play with my toys and I watch tv and that's it.

Cheers of yay....., echoed in the classroom this morning as the Cardinals heard we were going to gym class!! Josh had the Cardinals giggling as he began gym class with jokes! Friends then engaged in tossing and catching with scarfs. Josh asked each Cardinal to get a scarf to toss up and try to catch it right before it hit the ground. Friends did such a great job, so Josh challenged them to try to catch the scarf without using their hands. Some friends caught scarves with their arms, feet, head, face and even armpits (haha). As gym class came to an end we engaged in free play. Some friends ran together in a race and some friends continued practicing tossing with scarfs. Ask your Cardinal their favorite part of gym class today?

Tuesday

The Cardinals learned how to draw simple animals in art class today. Johanna first taught friends how to make shapes such as a circle, oval, triangles, rectangles and squares to create an animal. Ask your Cardinal which animal/s they created?

Friends walking around looking at, touching, moving boxes to choose the best one that is right for their animal habitat. After each box was chosen, we taped both sides up in preparation for our work tomorrow!

Wednesday  

 We used wooden blocks to help guide us through our meeting for worship today. Friends two at a time went to the block area and got two wooden blocks each and placed them anywhere they chose on a large piece of paper. Before we began we asked the class, "Does anyone remember the rules for this activity?" Many Cardinals did! Yay, Cardinals!!!!!   The two important rules were, "You can not move anyone's blocks and we need to do our activity in silence." After our activity, the Cardinals were asked, "Can you tell us what you think of our creation"  Here is what friends had to say:

Cooper -  It's A new Philadelphia

Ada - It looks like a Fairy Tail Land

Grant - Looks like City

Ekin - Philadelphia cause it's so big. I go to Philadelphia.

James V. - Baby Meep City cause that city was big like baby Meep's city.

Julian - Big Philadelphia

James M. - Citizen Bank Park

Jackson - 2 rectangle blocks look like Creeper's Leg.

Olivia - A town cause some blocks was high and small and different shapes.

Willow - It has long road cause it's Philadelphia.

Zoey - A chip's Store. 

Surai - A Fairy tale.

Addy - Philadelphia because it has bridge.

Shanaya - A hotel cause it had a lot of rooms.

Ellery - New York cause we been there before

Lydia - This part look like my house.

Music class began with Ellery leading us into the music room. After warming up to the song Wake Me Up by Wham! The Cardinals and Keisha sang our hello song Jambo. Followed by friends echoing Keisha as she played the drums. Friends needed to listen and echo the beat with their hands and feet. Keisha then introduced the Cardinals to the song John the Rabbit as she played the guitar.

The Cardinals continued to work on creating their animal habitats. Friends decided if they wanted their habitat with or without windows or doors. How many they wanted and where they wanted them created! Stay Tuned for more..

Thursday

The Cardinals choose the color that best represents their skin and painted their person/persona in Spanish class. 

After snack time, we talked about how friends may want to create the outside of their animal habitat. Here is what each Cardinal had to say:

Lydia - Horse - Red stripes, red strips with trees.

Zoey - Cow - paint red.

Julian - Hippo - I want trees, food and maybe some rocks and yeah, water. 

James M. - Hamster - I want to paint my habitat red with white stripes.

Ellery - Lion - paint it green and brown.

Shanaya - Flamingo - I want trees and sky and water. I gonna paint it.

Olivia - I want green paint green and brown paint and pictures.

Ekin - Cat -  Mine will be red with white strips. I need some grass and pictures too.

Jackson - Lion - I want to mix yellow and brown to paint the outside. I also want to use brown for tree trunks and green for the leaves.

James V. Gerbil - they live in sandy island, so I want to make a pattern on my habitat and sprinkle sand on it.You said, we can used sand right?

Addy -Flamingo - pictures of water, no paint.

Surai - Cat - I want a sky and red outside.

Willow - Giraffe - I want some grass and tall trees. I want green and brown on outside.

Grant - Penguins - white and snow and water and rock pictures.

Cooper - Lizard - trees and leaves, yellow on the bottom. I want paint it brown with sand.

Ada - Fox - Brown color. I want to paint my habitat brown and I want grass. I want berry brushes. I already have pictures of my fox but I want to draw some.  

 Friday

Erica did Literacy work with a small group of friends. Other friends in small groups rotated through stations as they worked on letter recognition, letter sounds and writing letters as they were called out by a teacher.

After returning our books to the library, Ashanti read us the book Jazz Fly. Followed by each Cardinal choosing and checking out a book to bring back to our classroom! Ask your Cardinal what book they choose?

                                    Game Play Day

The Cardinals spent lots of time outside enjoying the warm weather, so therefore. We had a short time for a game of Simon Says. All the Cardinals who wanted a chance to be Simon did!!
