Spanish class began with our regular Spanish jobs. We also counted by 10s to100 all in Spanish. Alicia finished the book Sparkle Boy but before she began reading. Alicia asked the Cardinals, "Who remembers what happened in the book?". Many friends recalled most of the highlights of the book so far. We began this book last Thursday and it was great to see many friends showing their comprehension and recall skills as they shared much information about this book. Today it was James's M. turned to squeezed la vaca!
The Cardinals explored focusing and catching skills in gym class. Friends were instructed to get a ball and a scooper. Josh then demonstrated how the Cardinals might practice tossing the ball and catching it. After we practiced our catching, Josh challenged the Cardinals to scoop the ball into the scooper as the ball bounced on the ground. The Cardinals enjoyed the challenge. Josh ended gym class with a joke. Ask your Cardinal to tell you a joke!
Tuesday
Today the Cardinals participated in a letter hunt literacy activity. In which uppercase letters were placed on or under a table or in a chair at the back of the classroom. Each friend, one at a time, got a chance to pick a letter of their choice, bring it back to the group, say what letter it was and the sound it makes. If a friend was not able to do any of the above another friend or friends worked together to help. Friends were also challenged to say a word or three that their letter began with. When this work was finished, we used the letters to see how many words we could create. We worked together and came up with 24 words! Great Job Cardinals!!
Wednesday
Music class was fun as Julian led us into the music room. We warmed up to Holiday by Madonna. Followed by warming up our voices like our friend Whooty the owl, we then sang Jambo our hello song. Keisha introduced the movement and song to This is Grandma's Glasses. Keisha and the Cardinals sang the words to the book, Over in the Meadow, while singing the Cardinals also acted out the movements of the animals in the book and called out each number as they counted in number order from 1-10 for each page! Great work, amazing Cardinals! Ask your Cardinal to tell you 2 or 4 animals in the book.
The Cardinals made their very own African place mats today. Friends chose from African colors and decided how to design their placemat by weaving their chosen paper. Each Cardinal wove strips of colorful paper to create patterns similar to those seen in traditional African mats. Each color represents something different. The color red represents strength, yellow for the sun, green is for the land and black for pride in the color of skin.
