The Cardinals engage in an activity in celebration of Earth Day (which is everyday)! Friends used markers, tissue paper and glue to design a printed out template of the Earth. Each Cardinal then gave dictation or wrote about how they can help the Earth! Yay Cardinals!
Tuesday
Today was Josh's birthday, we walked over to the gym to sing to him! Josh was very surprised and happy to see us. He offered us a store bought cookie cake but unfortunately. The cake had nuts in it. The Cardinals were disappointed, of course. As we were walking back a Cardinal reminded us that we said we were going to make cookies after reading the book, Grandma's Cookies. Back in the classroom, we checked and had most of the ingredients to make cookies. We got chocolate chips for a Kindergarten class and eggs and butter from the faulty room. The Cardinals cheered as they heard we had all the ingredients to make cookies! Friends were great helpers in adding ingredients and mixing batter! Each Cardinal ate one cookie after finishing their lunch and got another one to bring home!!
Wednesday
Most of our Animal research homework came back to school. If you have not sent yours in yet. Please do so, as we will be starting our presentation soon!
This morning, we had an assembly with the whole lower school in the auditorium. After some time in silence, Andrea read us the book, There was A Tree by Rachel Isadora. The book was about the Earth and some of the animals that live on Earth with us. The book had a very catchy repeated part and soon the auditorium was filled with singing. We then sang along with Keisha as she led us in singing Peace Like A River, Rainbow Around Me and Sing When The Spirit Say Sing while playing her guitar!! What a wonderful way to start our day!
The Cardinals had a little later music class today. Grant led us into the music room. We warmed up to Let's Do The Twist by Chubby Checker. Followed by friends singing Little Wheel Turning In My Heart as Keisha played the guitar. We then sang and did the movements to Rowing Down The River and Keisha's new version to Head Shoulder Knee and Toes. Nice work Cardinals you sure sounded awesome!!
By the time friends ate snack and had morning meeting it was almost 11am. It was time for some unstructured time and outdoor exploration.
The Cardinals working on fine motor skills. Friends used scissors, stencils, tiny cubes, magnetic alphabet boards and of course the loved magna-tiles to help strengthen their fingers muscle.
In Spanish class today the focus was on learning and saying the names of the animals we are studying. Alicia read us the book, . The book was about different animals and numbers in Spanish. Followed by Alicia putting the pictures of our animals around the Spanish room. Friends then played a game of Camina, Camina (walk) in which we walked around the classroom and when Alicia said para (stop). We stopped and listened for the animal being called. The Cardinals looked for and pointed to the animal's name that was called. Today it was Addy's turn to squeeze la vaca!
Today we began our presentations of our Animal Research Homework. The audience were quiet listeners as each presenter presented. Each presenter sat on a very big chair and spoke about each page of their research. A teacher helped those who needed it with remembering. At the end of each presentation the presenter took questions from their audience. Stay tuned for more presentations!!
