Alicia reinforced last class' learning by introducing us to the Spanish names of some of the clothing we wear. Friends repeated after Alicia to begin the process of learning these new Spanish words. Alicia focus on clothing such as dress- vestido,  skirt- falda, shirt camisa and pants - pantalón.  We finished class by playing a swatter game of listening for the article of clothing as Alicia called them out in Spanish. Friends then two at a time tapped on a picture they think matched the word being called with a swatter. Today it was Willow's turn to squeeze la vaca!

Upon the Cardinal's arrival to Gym class. Josh asked, "How are you all feeling?" Some of the responses from the Cardinals were good, great, happy, awesome, super duper happy, Mucho Grasia! Josh continued by asking, "Why?" One friend said, "Cause it gym time", almost all the Cardinals in a chorus kind of way cheered, yay...  Today the Cardinals worked with soft frisbee. The focus was on eye-hand coordination, team work, having fun, listening and following directions.

Tuesday

The Cardinals working on a journal entry titled, "What is your favorite animal/s?" and "Why?"

Today we were greeted at the art room door by Johanna who gave each Cardinal a picture of an animal. We came in and found a seat at a table which had animal habitats on them such as Tundra, Ocean, Forrest and Dessert. Johanna asked each friend, "Where do you think your animal lives? After some conversation, each friend walked around and tried to figure out where their animals lived and put them in the appropriate  habitat. The Cardinals were very creative as they then created and designed a home for their animal/s of choice.  Friends used cardboard for the base and colored paper, colorful sticks, tape, small toy animals, glue and scissors as they worked. Ask your Cardinal which animal/s they made a home for?

Wednesday

The Cardinals joined their second grade buddies and the rest of lower school as we walked over for meeting for worship. This was the first time in 2024 that friends engaged with each other. Many older and younger friends as we said goodbye, were asking if we could see each other later this week. The teachers will take a look at our schedules to see if there is any available time. Stay tuned!

James V. (as he is the line leader this week) led the class into the music room when he heard the music playing. The Cardinals warmed up with scarves or shaker eggs of their choosing by dancing and listening to Good Day, Good Day by Micheal Farnit and Spearhead. Followed by Hootie the owl helping the Cardinals with our moment of silences and hello song. Keisha then led us in Jax in a Box and Beat of the Drum.

  Choice Time

Thursday

Alicia recapped the work we did last class, reminding the Cardinals about the book called Mary Wears What She Wants.  Today we continued to learn about how we are all special in different ways and one of the ways is "clothes". We ALL wear clothes but our choices are different.  Alicia then read us the book called Julián is a Mermaid which is a story about a boy who wanted to be a mermaid and his abuela (grandmother) helping him to fulfill his dream. It's very important that adults in children's lives do our best to help them explore and reach their dreams. The message today was that there are no "boy clothes" or "girl clothes," just simply "clothes." As Alicia said, the clothes in her closet and drawers are not girl or boy clothes, they are simply "Alicia's clothes".  Today it was Shanaya's turn to squeezed la vaca!

After snack time, we talked about and divided up into the regions in which the animals we are studying live. Friends noticed how many friends were in each group and so we intertwined math in. We counted, figured out which group had less/more and did addition equations.

Friday

This morning lower schoolers had an assembly to start the celebration of Black History month. In the Cardinal's class, we work to celebrate all of the many cultures that are us. Some of the members of BSU- black students union from our upper school came to sing and perform for us. What awesome performances! Thank you BSU! Tonight in the auditorium (here at AFS) at 6:30 pm is Black Excellent Night! It's going to be a night of pure amazingness!

Today we celebrated Willow's birthday! She will turn 4 years old on Sunday! Willow brought in cupcakes and crowns to share with her friends! Her sister Ren in (Kindergarten) came to celebrate as well! Thank you, Willow, for sharing your birthday with us!

Our Cardinals have been asking when their second grade partners are coming back. Danielle and Mindy the second grade teachers have also told us that second graders have been asking about their Cardinals partners. This is so awesome that these friends are enjoying each other. And so this morning our partners came to spend some time with us.

  Game Play Day !!

Enjoy your weekend!
