The Cardinals worked on tossing in gym class with Josh. Friends began by getting a bucket, a soft fluffy ball and worked on tossing the ball into the bucket. Then Josh challenged the Cardinals to toss multiple objects at a time. Each friend got a bean bag to toss with their soft ball, then a scarf was added. The Cardinals did a great job practicing tossing three objects into their buckets.
Tuesday
Today, Joanna began art class by asking the Cardinals to identify shapes and where these shapes can be found or mean. Here is what friends had to say:
A Heart - means love, when people are kind and nice.
A Star - in the night sky, when the sun comes up it's a star.
A Oval - a egg, a ball.
A Circle - a pillow, a planet, the moon, cracker, cookie.
Friends then choose which shape or shapes they wanted to work with. Joanna gave out white paper with the chosen shapes on them. Friends used their imagination while using makers, different types and color paper to create their masterpieces. Upon completion, the Cardinals were asked what did you create? Here is what friends had to say:
Grant - Some stars
James M. - A Meteor heading for the gold star
Surai - A big heart for mommy
Ekin - Traveling to the planets
Jackson - A different kind of heart
James V - I making something beautiful
Addy - A rainbow
Julian - A race track
Lydia - For my mom and dad, they love it.

Ellery - A heart
Olivia - A cookie on the heart

Willow - Some different kind of cookies
Zoey - A car
Ada - A big heart thing, I don't know what it is yet.
Joanna asked friends to swap their creations with the person next to them for a few mins. She encouraged friends to have conversations about each other's work. Some of the comments that were overheard were how did you make this, I like yours, that's cool, You use my favorite color, I want to make one like yours. The Cardinals got back their creations to take home. Ask your Cardinal about their work!
Back in our classroom we had morning meeting and snack time before heading outside. This morning was a bit chilly but it soon warmed up after the rain went away and the sun came out. We read the book City Signs before heading outside on a Signs of Fall and Shape Hunt Walk. Our shape hunt was a connection to art class which was based on shapes. Here is what our Cardinals investigator noticed and discovered.
Jackson - There's red up there on the tree, purple leaves are in Fall too. These flowers look like little stars. I found a circle on this small acorn. The orange part of the car is a triangle. This has trapezoids too.
Addy - I see green leaves and different colors. I see square on trash can.
Willow - I see these stars on the car and I see acorns down here. The door and wall is rectangle.
James V. - It's the shape of an oval, it looks like dirt. You know these little acorn are really oval.
Surai - I find more leaves they are green, yellow and two brown. I find a ladybug it's on yellow leaf. Those lights are square. I find a square on this car.
Grant - I like to see leaves they fall off the tree, look the leaves falling down. The bench is rectangle.
Cooper - You can jump in leaves. I find a leaf it a circle and this other leaf is like a star.
Ada - Fall is a kind of weather. I find different shape leaves. I see square and square in the window.
Lydia - My leaf is red. I find a stick. The stick top is a circle.

Ellery - I see red leaves, look, my button is a circle.
Julian - Look, I find a red leaf. I see rectangle on that wall.
Shanaga - I like jumping in leaves cause it fun. The door is a rectangle. The door is a rectangle and the shape in the street is a triangle. I find a oval on this mini leaf.
Olivia - I see red and orange and brown leaves. Look, so many leaves on the ground. They all fall down. I see rectangle.
Ekin - Fall is a season it's after Summer. I find a acorn. The leaves fall off all the trees and then you jump in the leaves. I see oval inside the wheels. The window over there is square and it has rectangles in it too.
We discovered that shapes are everywhere and in all that we do. On a walk with your Cardinals ask them to show you some shapes.

Wednesday
The Cardinals each got a scarf as they entered the music room. Friends then made movements to the song I am me by Charlie Hope. The Cardinals really liked and enjoyed this song and asked Keisha to play it again and so she played it again! After singing our hello song, which the Cardinals sound amazing singing, we learned a new song about a bunny. Here is a bunny with ears so funny. Here is a hole big and round. At the first sound she hears, she pricks up her ear and into the ground she goes. Friends followed Keisha movements and tried singing this new song. Keisha played her guitar as we sang, clapped hands, marched, tipped toe, rolled arms, wiggled, jumping and running in place. We also made music, movement and sang with egg shakers. Followed by singing our goodbye song before heading back to our classroom. Ask your Cardinal what they like about the song I am Me?
The Cardinals worked to help create a number line from 1-20. We will laminate our numbers and display them on a wall in our classroom.
Thursday
While walking to Spanish class, three friends began singing hola, hola, hola and soon most of the Cardinals were singing it. Alicia smiled big as she heard the Cardinals. After our morning greetings in Spanish, we went over colors in Spanish and this time Alicia said the colors in English and friends said them in Spanish. Today the Cardinals played the swatter game with really big swatters. Friends thought this was so funny because of their size. Alicia then called out a color in Spanish and friends figured out which color it was by tapping it with the swatter. The Cardinals did such an amazing job! Ask your Cardinal to show you two - four or more colors and tell you what it is in Spanish. Today it was Ekin's turn to squeezed la vaca!
Friday
The Cardinals started the day by having an assembly with the whole lower school. We celebrated Hispanic month with a few members of our upper school Hispanic infinity group coming and talking to us about what it means to be Hispanic. Jeff Bond, our all school Athletic director, also came and brought along 7 upper school athletes. They talked about the importances of exercise while having fun. The athlete's Fall sports are soccer, cross country and tennis. Soon, the auditorium erupted in cheers as Roo, our school's mascot (a Kangaroo) came in.
After returning to our classroom, we had morning meeting, snack time and then Library class with Ashanti. Today the Cardinals asked questions, made predictions, made connections and comments as they listened to the book Bear Has A Story to Tell by Philip C. Stead. Friends then choose a book to bring back to our classroom.
