Josh was not at school for our gym class today and so the Cardinals made up their own gym class. We played with fluffy balls, bowling pins, and colorful balls. Some friends raced each other around the gym's perimeter, while others made houses with the bowling pins and had conversations. A few friends played throwing and catching balls with a teacher. While some friends used the pins as bats, kicked or rolled the balls to knock down pins. We even got to spend a longer time in the gym!

On our way back from the gym, we stopped and took a look at the scarecrows made by our Kindergarten, first and third graders, before outdoor play.

We have been reading 3-6 chapters at a time of Magic Tree House book series by Mary Pope Osborne during rest time. We are currently on book number 6 Afternoon on the Amazon. The Cardinals are truly enjoying these books and some friends are starting to act out the adventures of (Jack and Annie) the main characters in the books. These books are a great way for friends to create imagination and to build recall of information. We asked friends to verbally tell what happened in the chapters from yesterday before moving on to the next chapters. Ask your Cardinal what they like about Jack and Annie's books?

We then explained to the Cardinals what to expect during the fire drill, where we were going and that we all needed to be quiet once outside to listen for instructions. We went off to art class. Joanna asked the Cardinals to take a close look at the pictures on the table. She then asked, "What do you see and what do you think?" Here is what friends had to say:
It looks like a dead fish.
A x-ray fish cause it show the bones
It look like soccer ball

I think that it's dead

I see thousands of bones
Joanna then explained, "What you're looking at is an x-ray. When you go to the doctor or hospital sometimes they may take a x-ray of your body. A friends announced, "I see it's esophagus". Another friend added, "No, I see the Spine." Joanna told the Cardinals they can use different color permanent and regular markers to color or draw along the lines of the fish.  Stay tuned for the next steps to this work!

Back in our classroom, we started to eat snack and then the fire alarm went off. Friends quietly followed directions and walked to the back door and went outside. We were very impressed with the Cardinals during the fire drill. What an amazing job they all did!! After returning to the classroom, we asked our Cardinals, "What did they think of the fire drill and how did they feel?" Here is what friends had to say:

Wednesday
This morning we began the process of making our homemade applesauce. We peeled and cut 17 Granny Smith and Red Delicious apples. Then we put the cut apples in a saucepan with water, cinnamon and a little sugar to cook on a burner, before going to the music room

Today Keisha was not at school and so the Cardinal made their own music class. We used scarves to wave up high and down low. Then we jumped, glopped with the scarves before putting them to sleep and after a few seconds we woke them up. We toss, fly and hop with our scarves before putting them to sleep. We put the scarves on our heads and stuck our arms out as we walked around pretending to be ghosts. We finished up by wiggling, dancing and running in place with our scarves. The Cardinals then used the egg shakers to sing and do the movements to Washy-Washy. We also sing Shake and Shake and Stop followed by making a pose. Each Cardinal got a chance to create a pose for all friends to follow. Ask your Cardinal what pose they created?

During our music time a teacher mashed the cooked apples and spoon some into cups. The cups were then placed in the freezer to cool down.
We could smell our applesauce as we walked down the hallway and back into our classroom.

Many Cardinals had 2-3 helpings, we asked how's the applesauce. Friends had this to say:

Jackson - Had 2 helpings and said, "I like it"
Addy - Had 2 helpings and said, "Good"

Zoey - Had 2 helpings, "Good"

Thursday

We had morning meeting before heading over to Spanish class. In class, Alicia read us the book My color, My World - Mis Colores. Mi mundo  We went over basic colors in Spanish and this time Alicia again said the colors in English and friends said them in Spanish. The Cardinals did an even better job this time around! We then played the swatter game with the colors. As an added part to this game, friends needed to find the colors on other friend's clothing as well and call it out. Today it was Ellery's turn to squeezed la vaca.

We set up three sensory stations, writing/drawing in shaving cream, making flubber and making a science reaction with cornstarch and water. What a messing fun time the Cardinals had.
