We had morning meeting and snack before heading over to gym class with Josh. Today we focus on balancing in gym class. As we walked into the gym, Josh had an obstacle course set up for us. Josh said today we were working on our focus, coordination and balancing skills. Friends worked with hula hoops, different kinds of balance beams and limbo. The Cardinals pretended that the floor was lava in order to try to maintain their balance. Ask your Cardinal which balancing activity or activities they liked best?
Tuesday
In Art class the Cardinals continued their work from last week! Johanna asked, "What pictures are we looking at?" A friend said, "Fish and different fish" Johanna then asked, "How do you know it's a fish?" Some of the answers were, "Cause it's a fish, it lives in water, it has eyes but it's dead, I see a fish before". Johanna said, "Wow, Cardinals you're using your brain". She then held up another picture and again asked, "What is this?" The Cardinals had much to say, "I know that's a seahorse because they look like real horses. You know seahorses swim standing up, my mom let me watch Elmo and it was bout seahorse. I watch that show too but I didn't see a seahorse. What channel it on? I see a real seahorse before but I don't remember what it call." Joanna continued to inform the Cardinals that today they were going to add bones to their fish from last week. Friends used glue, different kinds of small sticks, buttons, and beads to create their work. Johanna also let the Cardinals know that they will be creating an ocean for their fish as well. Stay Tuned!
We worked on a journal entry titled, "What do you like to do at school?" and "Why?" Ask your Cardinal what they drew?
Wednesday
The Cardinals had meeting for worship in the music room with the Catbirds class. We all settled into silence (great job friends!!) followed by a teacher reading a book called Somewhere Today by Shelly Moore Thomas. The book was about some of the simple ways in which any child or adult can make the world a better place.
We learned that Keisha was out sick. The Cardinal musicians made up their music class today. We warmed up by dancing to Dinosaur Stomp with scarves. Followed by singing our hello song Jambo, and doing movements with our eggs. As we sang two friends at a time made up poses and then the other friends followed! We added a little twist and had a little dance party in the music room. We dance to Get Your Body Moving by following the actions in the song such as pretending to push with our hands, bouncing, dipping, jumping and hopping. The Cardinals also dance to Thunder and make up their own dance moves before heading back to our classroom.
In the classroom, we had morning meeting followed by snack time and then small group work. We set up three literacy stations in which friends rotated through. The Cardinals worked on recognizing uppercase letters, identifying letters sounds and writing letters that were called out in random order. We will make these group smaller and do one on one work as well. Ask your Cardinal what they like about doing this work?
Thursday
The Cardinals start the day by having Spanish class. We went over the colors with Alicia in which we played Canima (walk) around the classroom and then she said para (stop). Friends then point to the colors in the room that were called. Alicia then began to teach/go over the Spanish words for some of our body parts such as - cabeza (head), hombro (shoulders), rodillas (knees), dos pies (two feet), nariz (nose), orejas (ears) and ojos (eyes). She then did the head, shoulders, knees and toes song with the Cardinals. We ended class by singing our adios (goodbye) song and today it was Grant's turn to squeezed la vaca.
We had a class discussion about, "What do you want to learn more about?" and "Why" Here is what each friends had to say.
