PE, Art, Music, Library, Spanish Classes, and More...

Welcome to the first full edition of the Cardinal's Blog!

Monday

In PE class with Josh, our gym teacher, the Cardinals introduced themselves by saying their names. Josh then explained that today in class, we would be working with hula hoops. Friends found a hoop and sat in it. Josh then gave directions such as when the music starts, friends would move away from the hoop and do the action. When the music stopped friends would find a hoop and sit in it. Friends did actions such as running, skipping, hopping, glopping, and jumping. At the end of class friends got a chance to explore any action/s they want to do more of. Ask your Cardinal what they like about Gym class?

Each Cardinal worked with paints, stickers, colored sequins and plain sequins and decided how and what they wanted to decorate their family picture frame with.

Our displayed family photos!

Tuesday

The Cardinals attend their first Art class with our Art teacher Johanna in the Art room. The Cardinals walked in and sat down. Johanna introduced herself and the Cardinals did a great job of introducing themselves as well. Johanna then read the book called The Dot by  Peter H. Reynolds. The Cardinals created inspired paintings like  Vashti in the book by using water paints and different size paint brushes. Great work Cardinals creating your individual master pieces!

Wednesday

Keisha, our Music teacher, came to our classroom for Music today. Keisha introduced herself by saying her name out loud and then clapped her hands while saying her name to see how many claps it took to say her name. Each Cardinal then did the same and after the first couple of friends. Keisha encouraged the Cardinals to make predictions as to how many claps each friend's name may have.  Keisha continued by playing her guitar and introducing our hello song. Friends echoed Keisha in singing Jambo which means hello in Swahili. We sang Jambo to the trees, sun, friends, birds and the world. Keisha showed us the sign language signs for standing and sitting. The Cardinals then watched and did a great job following Keisha's directions! Ask your Cardinal to show you how many claps are in their name?

Thursday

Today, the Cardinals went to the Spanish room and had Spanish class with Alicia, our Spanish teacher who we met last week. Alicia greeted us in Spanish and then got to know us by asking our names! She then played a game she calls, "Switch-A-Roo", in which Alicia counts in Spanish to 5 with her eyes closed.  While Alicia counts, the Cardinals got up and quietly switched places on the rug. Alicia then sees if she can remember friends' names. We played this game twice and Alicia did a great job of remembering the Cardinals names! The Cardinals had fun playing this game as they giggled and laughed!!

Friends spent time running and playing with a parachute out on the big field near Tyson house here on campus. What a fun time!!

Friday

We went to library class, Michele and Ashanti, our lower school librarians, introduced themselves to us and we did the same. They went over the library rules with us such as using a quiet voice, how to check a book out, how to take care of books, Michelle then read us the book My Dad Is A Tree by Jon Agee. Friends then got a chance to choose a book of their choice and brought it back to our classroom. These books will live on the bookshelf in our classroom and we will return them in a week. Please note that EC students do not bring library books home that will start in Kindergarten.
